Is Ayia Napa Safe? What Not to Do…

Although Ayia Napa has a strong reputation when it comes to safety, you still have to be careful of the following…

In the case of an emergency call 112. This number is for the…

  • Police
  • Ambulance
  • Fire Service

Do Not Leave Bags or Electrical Items on Show in Your Rental Car

If you are renting a car, please note that although the crime rate in Cyprus is low, you still have to take care of your belongings, don’t leave any valuable items on show in your rental car.

If you are planning to rent a car for your holiday, we recommend checking out driving in Cyprus. You will find essential information for drivers driving for the first time on the island. Please note that we drive on the left hand side of the road!

Is Ayia Napa Safe? Yes! Sing and Dance Like You’ve Never Before!

In other words, have fun!!! Don’t worry too much about crime, it’s very low in Ayia Napa. Be aware of the risk pick pocketing though, it happens in most tourist resorts across the world, but serious crime here is rare.

Having said that… Drink with moderation…!! No-one wants to see someone that’s had too much to drink, lying in the street, losing all dignity and respect…especially if you are here alone…

Why are we saying this?

You should be sober enough to be able to get back to your hotel in one piece. Taxi drivers are not paid to guess where you stay, and you can’t take home memories from a holiday you can’t remember… :-) So, take extra care of yourself “Stay Hydrated” if you wish to, sing and dance the whole night away.

Having a Car

If you rent a car, then get drunk, it is a serious crime to drive, as is similar in most countries in the world. It’s also an expensive paperweight if you can’t drive it, but still pay the rental agreement. When you visit Ayia Napa, you will also find that the Police often do random alcohol tests on the drivers.

So, if you do have a car… Don’t drive if you could possibly be over the legal driving limit in regard to alcohol consumption (That Includes the following day). It’s that simple :-).

Don’t Leave Your Drink Unattended…

Our tip for the inexperienced party goers, keep your drink with you at all times and do not leave it unattended at all, not even for a moment…

It has been known for people to drop things in other people’s drinks, so, take this one seriously…

Drink responsibly and in moderation….! :-)

Legal Alcohol Drinking Age in Cyprus!

You have to be at the least 18 years old to have an alcoholic drink in Cyprus.

So many young people come here to Ayia Napa (alone and with friends) and try alcoholic drinks for the very first time. Most of the time they overdo it!

You will be arrested if you are considered “Drunk and Disorderly”, the Police conduct regular patrols around Aiya Napa, and will take action if it’s necessary.

All the Local Cypriots enjoy a party too you know… but let’s keep it real, don’t allow your fun, be at the cost of someone else’s peace and respect…

Street Fighting

Fights do happen rarely, usually among drunken party goers. Don’t let yourself become one of them. Locals usually stay away from that sort of thing…We live here right…? :-).

During the night there is usually a strong Police presence so if things do escalate the Police are there in numbers and respond immediately.

Travelling Solo

Please note that solo travellers (both men and women) are welcomed with open arms to Cyprus!

I started visiting Ayia Napa alone back in the day, and I still enjoy it like that now sometimes…. I have had and still do have the time of my life every time I go there…!

So, as a seasoned local solo traveller, the best tips I can give you are this…

  • Have fun while enjoying our lovely cocktails…
  • Don’t let anything come between you and the best holiday ever!
  • Stay safe, stay in public well-lit areas. Use your common sense, don’t walk alone at night in deserted, badly lit areas.

...That wraps up our article “Is Ayia Napa Safe?”.

We know you’ll have the best holiday ever here on our island, and specifically, in the beautiful and exotic resort of Ayia Napa. :-)
